30 Ways to Support Your Husband

by Anne Elliott, August 11, 2003

Marriages have their ups and downs, don't they? Some days I just can't figure out that guy of mine! Why can he be so infuriating? I'm positive he feels the same way about me, too! But God's Word is clear that I am his helper, his support, his completer. I've found that when I concentrate on my role as my husband's helper, our relationship improves and the loving feelings return. I've asked my husband for some input on ways that I can help him better. I hope you enjoy this list!

(Oh, boy... I was supposed to be making a pot of coffee for my husband. It's probably cold by now! Why don't you read while I go make him a nice cup of joe...)

  1. wake up early early enough to make his breakfast
  2. have dinner ready when he gets home
  3. allow him to enjoy his favorite hobbies without nagging him
  4. clean the house on a consistent basis
  5. don't talk badly about him to others
  6. don't argue in front of others
  7. give him a good knock-your-socks-off kiss every day
  8. smile when he walks in the door
  9. tell him you love him daily
  10. show a personal interest in the things that interest him
  11. pray for him (and tell him you do)
  12. be trustworthy and keep his secrets
  13. never go to bed angry
  14. be willing to be the first to say "I'm sorry"
  15. schedule time in your day for caring for his needs
  16. be compassionate
  17. use your best manners, like you did when you were dating
  18. don't be sarcastic
  19. thank him when he does something nice for him
  20. look in his eyes when he speaks to you
  21. honor him in front of the children
  22. praise him behind his back
  23. look pretty for him
  24. refer to him with names of endearment
  25. think about him all day long
  26. ask him his opinion before making a decision
  27. be of "one mind" when disciplining the children
  28. compliment him at least once every day
  29. dwell on his good qualities
  30. never use the "d" word (divorce)
