30 Ways to Support Your Husband
by Anne Elliott, August 11, 2003
Marriages have their ups and downs, don't they? Some days I just can't figure out that guy of mine! Why can he be so infuriating? I'm positive he feels the same way about me, too! But God's Word is clear that I am his helper, his support, his completer. I've found that when I concentrate on my role as my husband's helper, our relationship improves and the loving feelings return. I've asked my husband for some input on ways that I can help him better. I hope you enjoy this list!
(Oh, boy... I was supposed to be making a pot of coffee for my husband. It's probably cold by now! Why don't you read while I go make him a nice cup of joe...)
- wake up early early enough to make his breakfast
- have dinner ready when he gets home
- allow him to enjoy his favorite hobbies without nagging him
- clean the house on a consistent basis
- don't talk badly about him to others
- don't argue in front of others
- give him a good knock-your-socks-off kiss every day
- smile when he walks in the door
- tell him you love him daily
- show a personal interest in the things that interest him
- pray for him (and tell him you do)
- be trustworthy and keep his secrets
- never go to bed angry
- be willing to be the first to say "I'm sorry"
- schedule time in your day for caring for his needs
- be compassionate
- use your best manners, like you did when you were dating
- don't be sarcastic
- thank him when he does something nice for him
- look in his eyes when he speaks to you
- honor him in front of the children
- praise him behind his back
- look pretty for him
- refer to him with names of endearment
- think about him all day long
- ask him his opinion before making a decision
- be of "one mind" when disciplining the children
- compliment him at least once every day
- dwell on his good qualities
- never use the "d" word (divorce)
